The nuclear-localized D53 proteins are key repressors in SL signaling, and the D53 repress downstream TCP transcription factors to control secondary-shoot or root outgrowth. When SL molecule binds to the SL receptor D14, the interaction between D14 and the D53 proteins is promoted. The formation of D14–SL–D53 complex enhances the interaction of D53 proteins with the F-box component of the SCFD3 complex, leading to the polyubiquitination of the D53 proteins, and subsequent degradation via the 26S proteasome pathway.
